The MIA Archive has launched a new project called “Find Your Ancestor. This project is based upon a mutually-beneficial relationship: The Archive will serve the public, as the public assists the Archive.
Not long after the Sovietization of Georgia, the Great Purge began. The Purge was a series of campaigns of political repression and persecution, carried out by Soviet authorities. Today, the criminal cases of the repressed are preserved in the MIA Archive. Many photographs and letters are attached to these cases, but many materials remain anonymous. “Find Your Ancestor” was launched in order to identify the people in these photos and letters. Interested persons can place a request through the MIA Archive to receive copies of the anonymous materials, and attempt to identify their relatives.  After a successful identification, the original photos and letters will be attached to the proper file.
