The Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia
The International Scientific Council of the Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is a unit of the Archive. Its goal is
to coordinate scientific-popularization activities of the Archive. The membership of the Council is purely voluntary and is
not paid. The International Scientific Council basically consists of leading foreign scientists who have a wide experience
of working on historic documents and taking part in archival activities. These scientists contribute to professional
development of the Archive. Particularly, with the assistance of its members, many international projects are carried out.
Their scientific works are published in The Archival Bulletin which is issued by the Archive. Besides, the Archive
collaborators participate in the international scientific conferences which are organized by the members of the
International Scientific Council, and plan on-going, as well as future joint events and publications. The International
Scientific Council is headed by the Director of MIA Archive and its scientific activities are coordinated by a collaborator
of MIA Archive with the academic title (a PhD is desirable).

The functions of the members of the International Scientific Council of MIA Archive are as follows:

1. Assisting and planning on-going, as well as future long term projects;
2. Popularizing the MIA Archive activities among those international scientific centers, foreign universities and
research institutions which member they are;
3. Consulting on the bilingual journal The Archival Bulletin issued by MIA Archive and periodically publishing their
works in this edition. The members of the Council participate in choosing a theme of a new fall edition of the journal
considering actual issues of modern researches of Soviet studies;
4. Participating in the international events, including conferences, meetings and exhibitions which are organized by the
MIA Archive;
5. Making suggestions related to the increase of professional level of the Archive staff.

3. Marcin Majewski - Doctor, Head of Department of Archival Studies and Source Editing, IPN`s
   Archive (Poland)
4. Georgij Mamulija - Doctor of the High School for Social Studies (France)
5. Oliver Reisner - Doctor, Representative of European Union delegation to Georgia (Georgia)
6. Arsenij Roginskij - Chairman of the Memorial Society (Russia)
7. Jeffrey Rossman - Professor at the University of Virginia, director of the Center for Russian, East
   European and Eurasian Studies (US)
8. Erik Scott - Assistant Professor at the University of Kansas (US)
9. Jeremy Smith - Professor at the Karelian Institute, University of Eastern Finland (Finland)
10. Ronald Grigor Suny - Professor at the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago (USA)
